Hemorrhoids are one of the most painful conditions one may ever experience. Hemorrhoids are actually swelling of the varicose veins in the rectal or anal region and are usually painful and itchy when triggered. However, there are also lots of treatments recommended for hemorrhoids. One remedy and the most preferred type of treatment is witch hazel. This is used by many because it is both effective and affordable.

The use of witch hazel for hemorrhoid treatment is a great choice. In fact, witch hazel has long been used by barbers when they cut someone. This is because witch hazel helps in soothing cuts and helps decrease inflammation of blood vessels in order to prevent skin irritation. This solution also has been used for hemorrhoids for many generations now.

You can use witch hazel topically by applying a small amount of it onto cotton and gently dabbing on the affected area. You can also do a home treatment using witch hazel for your hemorrhoids. You can put the witch hazel inside a refrigerator or have it soaked in a bucket full of ice for a few hours. When cold, pour a few drops of witch hazel onto a soft cloth and then apply to the affected area. Keep the compress on the irritated part until the cloth loses its coolness. You may repeat this several times for great relief and comfort. Witch hazel may also be applied to bleeding hemorrhoids. It can help reduce the swelling of the veins and relieve the bleeding.

“Now I have no pain. Wow!”

I have had internal bleeding hemmorrhoids from pregnancy and the over the counter stuff has just made it so much more worse (prep H and stool softeners – what the Doc recommended). [This system] stopped the bleeding and …. now I have no pain. Wow!

Causes

Increased straining during bowel movements, by constipation or diarrhea, may lead to hemorrhoids.It is thus a common condition due to constipation caused by water retention in women experiencing premenstrual syndrome or menstruation.

Hypertension, particularly portal hypertension, can also cause hemorrhoids because of the connections between the portal vein and the vena cava which occur in the rectal wall — known as portocaval anastomoses.

Obesity can be a factor by increasing rectal vein pressure. Sitting for prolonged periods of time can cause hemorrhoids. Poor muscle tone or poor posture can result in too much
pressure on the rectal veins.

Pregnancy causes hypertension and increases strain during bowel movements, so hemorrhoids are often associated with pregnancy.

Excessive consumption of alcohol or caffeine can cause hemorrhoids.Both can cause diarrhea. Note that caffeine
ingestion increases blood pressure transiently, but is not thought to cause chronic hypertension. Alcohol can also cause alcoholic liver disease leading to portal hypertension.

Symptoms

Many anorectal problems, including fissures, fistulae, abscesses, or irritation and itching, also called pruritus ani, have similar symptoms and are incorrectly referred to as
hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids usually are not dangerous or life threatening. In most cases, hemorrhoidal symptoms will go away within a few days.

Although many people have hemorrhoids, not all experience symptoms. The most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids is bright red blood covering the stool, on toilet paper, or in the toilet bowl.
However, an internal hemorrhoid may protrude through the anus outside the body, becoming irritated and painful. This is known as a protruding hemorrhoid.

Symptoms of external hemorrhoids may include painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus that results when a blood clot This condition is known as a thrombosed external hemorrhoid.

In addition, excessive straining, rubbing, or cleaning around the
anus may cause irritation with bleeding and/or itching, which may produce a vicious cycle of symptoms. Draining mucus may also cause itching.

In medical terms, piles is described as painful swollen blood vessels near the rectal area resulting in inflammation, itching and burning sensation.
